Wow is it November already!! Wow! Did this year fly or was it just me?? This month we are working on our holiday Goodies for our family! All crafting should be done and put aside, I know I know, but we need time to just relax and let the juices rebuild. I want you to go to your cookbooks or online and find one new recipe for thanksgiving, and make it this year. It can be anything from desserts to main to just snacks, but I want you to try something new. I would love for you all with kids to have a day you take them in the kitchen and start those Christmas cookies!! Kids love baking, they really do and take the time to enjoy them, trust me there will be a time they want nothing to do with you so enjoy this time while you can. Take this time this month to get your Christmas cards ready to mail. Also now is a good time to start your holiday decorating, while it's still not too cold, we need to think of poor hubby hanging on the cold ladders too! lol I really want you all to enjoy this month with family and friends!!! We won't be sending out a December letter so we can spend more time with our families too, so enjoy the holidays and family! I have added a few recipes, try them!!! Happy holidays my friends!! will see you all in the new year!!!!
Until
next year,

Here are the Questions and
Answers shared by myself:
1. Describe your business: type of business, where you are located, how long you have been in business, website URL's, etc.
I started my business in January 2001 as Debbie's Books because my original products were simply personalized books for children. As the years went by I expanded into other things and currently just sell personalized printed products such as Birthday Chronicles, First Name Meanings, Anniversary Almanac, customized poems, etc. My retail business URL is http://www.debbiesgiftshop.com.
Also in 2001 I decided to write a Work At Moms resource site because there weren't really any of those types of sites that offered information to those wishing to start a home based business and http://www.faithfulfriendsonline.com was born.
2. How did you decide on your business name?
I wanted a name that included my name so it wasn't difficult. Sometimes I wish I would have been more original.
3. What were the first things you did to get your business going?
I contacted an accountant, the IRS, and local county government to see what I needed in my area. Once everything was in place I purchased inventory and started advertising.
4. How long did it take you from the time you decided to open your business to your Grand Opening Day?
About 3 months to get going.
5. What was the best thing you did to get your business going?
Sending out local press releases and designing my website.
6. What was one thing that you did that you would advise others not to do?
Purchasing more inventory than you need. Only get what you absolutely need and find out what clicks best with your target market. Once you start making a profit you can then expand slowly. The worst thing is to have standing inventory and no money for new items within your business.
7. How do you network? What do you find works the best?
Online message boards, flyers, vendor shows, and through my website.
8. Do you advertise? If so, what type of advertising works the best for you business?
I rarely advertise but when I do it's with other work at home business or through a trade.
9. Do you have any advice to give someone thinking of getting into their own business?
Make sure you have the ability to make ends meet without any income for at least a year. Put back into the business anything that it makes at first. Be prepared to be flexible with your business. Make sure to watch what works and what doesn't.
10. What type of products do you find are 'hot' right now?
Personalized poetry seems to be really hot right now.

Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C).
In a large bowl, toss together the apples, oranges, brown sugar, Cheddar cheese, and walnuts. Spread evenly in a 9x13 inch baking dish. Sprinkle crushed crackers evenly over the fruit.
Melt the butter in a small saucepan over medium heat and whisk in flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and baking powder. Drizzle over the crackers, then drizzle the creamer over the casserole. Cover with a lid or aluminum foil.
Bake for 1 hour in the preheated oven. Remove from the oven and uncover. Stir gently to fold in the crust.
Rum or Bourbon Balls
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup white sugar
3 tablespoons corn syrup
1/2 cup rum
2 1/2 cups crushed vanilla wafers
1 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
1/3 cup confectioners' sugar
DIRECTIONS
Place chocolate chips into a microwave-safe medium bowl. Heat in the microwave for 1 minute, stir and then continue to heat at 20 second intervals, stirring between each, until melted and smooth. Stir in sugar and corn syrup. Blend in rum. Add crushed vanilla wafers and chopped nuts. Mix until evenly distributed. Cover and refrigerate until firm.
Roll the chilled chocolate mixture into bite-size balls. Roll balls in a mixture of ground nuts and confectioner's sugar, or just plain confectioner's sugar. Store in a covered container for a week before serving to blend the flavors.
